Oh no no not that, he just thinks he's just your plaything, but from the way he talks about you two he likes you and G'raha a whole lot, he just doesn't think you two plan to keep him around I guess? It feels like he's worried you guys will get bored of him and kick him out or something though that's not quite how he says it.

Okay so I'll copy and paste it really quick, I'd jokingly called you and G'raha his spouses and he came back with

[She finds a shaded spot to wait and hopes Ezar won't be too cranky with her. Honestly she just wanted to make sure she wasn't confused about what was actually going on and make assumptions!]

[ Ezar catches up a few minutes later, jumping down off a nearby building in proper dragoon style. ]

[Luckily she doesn't flinch at his arrival, waving at him after pausing from fanning her face. It was so hot here! But from the look on his face she was going to be in even hotter water in a second. Why on earth does she suddenly feel like she's in a lot more trouble than a simple question (nosey or otherwise) should've gotten her into? So much so that she offers him her phone without even trying to tease him like she usually would have.]

Hey Ezar! Summer's on the phone for you.

[ Ezar stares at Aerith, thinking this is perhaps a trick to get out of the well-deserved shaking she has coming her way. ]

He takes the phone. ]

Hello, Rolanberry.

[And lo and behold, 'tis not a trick. Just Summer, still sounding a little surprised, but overall fairly patient and calm all things considered.]

Aerith tells me she's worried about you. She thinks you have a habit of saying things that make it sound like you're afraid Raha and I will — how did she put it. "Toss you aside."

[One can almost hear the shrug in her pause.]

Do you think I'm going to toss you aside? Yes or no.

He has to close his eyes for a moment and breathe, because 'yes or no' leaves no space for the endless insecurity that churns in his gut every time he thinks about these matters. It's an answer that requires a frightening amount of solidity.

But ultimately, the answer is about what Summer would do, not what he's afraid Summer will do, or what he feels he richly deserves to have happen to him. And if he makes himself set aside all of those things, he knows what the answer is.

Quietly: ]

No.

[voidgates]

[And then, very softly: ]

Good boy.

[She waits a minute. Gives him the chance to process that, the space to not risk embarrassing himself in front of Aerith. The opportunity to learn how this game plays out.]

Do I ever toss my precious things aside? Yes or no.

[ He closes his eyes and breathes out slowly.

The second question is far easier to answer. ]

[With every passing moment, the likelihood of Aerith getting thrown out a window diminishes and diminishes.]

And what do I do, when someone tries to take away something that's mine?

[ Ezar breathes out a soft little hah, one corner of his mouth pulling into a wry smile. ]

You fuckin' end 'em.

[The satisfaction is evident in her tone, too.]

Do you feel a little better? Yes or no.

[ Another soft little huff of a laugh. ]

Aye, I do, Starshine.

[ Heh. ]

Don't mean I'm no gonna shake Aerith til her teeth rattle, though.

Don't forget that name and what it means. No one gets to call me so but you.

[Heh indeed.]

Tell her I'll talk to her again if she likes. You can do whatever shaking you see fit to do after.

[ That reminder, that it is a name only for her, that only he gets to say, makes him smile. It's a small thing, but a smile does show in the voice. ]

Aye, love.

I'll see you in a bit.

[ And then he offers the phone back to Aerith. ]

[Admittedly she had not been listening except to Ezar's side of things (it was hard not to when they were standing next to one another), and only made a plaintive "hey!" at the threat of being shaken when she'd clearly only been trying to straighten things out so that she hadn't accidentally assumed things that weren't true, but as the conversation went on she couldn't help the smile that took over her face at how Ezar's mood shifted for the better.

By the end she'd had her hands pressed to her cheeks and was grinning hard enough that her face hurt. Ezar had cute pet names for Summer. Cute pet names!!! She was so delighted her gem had started to shine with it, joyful warmth and relief rolling off her as she took back her phone with a grin.]

Does this mean I'm not getting murdered and stuffed under a bush for asking if everything was okay?
